In partnership with the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, The Untitled Space is proud to present "Fahren Feingold Ethereal Legacy," a benefit art auction curated by Indira Cesarine, featuring works by the late artist Fahren Feingold. Showcasing 80 unique and vibrant watercolor paintings, including several new releases from the artist’s estate, the benefit aims to donate the proceeds from each artwork sold to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance in light of Feingold’s untimely passing from the disease last fall, at the age of 43.
The auction comes on the heels of recent studies that suggest Gen X (1965-1979) is more likely to be diagnosed with cancer than the preceding generations. Furthermore, the incidence rate of colorectal cancer in those under 50 has nearly doubled in the past decade. The Colorectal Cancer Alliance is the nation's leading nonprofit dedicated to colorectal cancer; its main goals are to increase awareness, build community, and learn more about young-onset colorectal cancer while accelerating research.
One of the ways they accomplish this is by partnering with passionate allies and partaking in initiatives like this one. It’s also one of the ways The Untitled Space is honoring the estate of the artist, who has been represented by the gallery since 2017. Tragically, Feingold was diagnosed with colon cancer in July 2023 and passed away on September 26, 2023, just weeks after her diagnosis, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, innovation, and empowerment. Over the years, Cesarine had come to know Feingold and is proud to uphold her artistic legacy today:
"Hosting this benefit art auction in honor of Fahren Feingold holds profound significance for me. Fahren's work has always celebrated the beauty and strength of the human spirit, and through this auction, we continue her legacy by supporting the fight against colon cancer. Raising funds for this cause is not just about research and treatment, but about hope and solidarity. Every piece of art sold brings us closer to a world where colon cancer is a thing of the past, and every contribution made in Fahren's memory honors her incredible talent and compassion."
The auction puts Feingold’s evolution as an artist on full display. From French and vintage inspired magazines to personal interactions with her friends, her influences had changed over the years, giving a more insightful look into her inner world in the process. A notable constant was her commitment to women’s stories. Through her signature wet-on-wet technique and others, Feingold's art emphasizes the female gaze, celebrating the beauty and complexity of the female form.
“Opening my eyes to the beauty and love that exists within me and around, my paintings act as a quiet dagger of truth, exposing the beauty of the feminine form from the female gaze, emphasizing the female body as a great thing to behold, free of judgment and objectification," wrote Feingold in her artist statement for her last exhibition, “LIVING FOR LOVE” (2023). "My paintings of the female figure expand the footprint of women painted by women, celebrating sisterhood and empowering female themes."
Outside New York, Feingold exhibited in Paris, London, Los Angeles, Miami, Tokyo and elsewhere. Her watercolors often explored femininity and the female form, sensuality, and empowerment. Looking back on Feingold's work, I'd like to believe that I can see how her focus may have shifted with her priorities and perspectives. From her beginnings in fashion and early interest in vintage erotica to her intimate portraits of friends and dedication to mental health in her recent years, her growth as a person as well as an artist had been fascinating to follow.
The Fahren Feingold Ethereal Legacy Benefit Art Auction offers a unique opportunity to see a small part of her creative journey. Bidding live from June 20, 2024, 12 PM EST through June 30, 2024, 6 PM EST on untitled-space.art
